I have been with State Farm for all of my auto/home insurance needs for 30 years, since I got my drivers license learner’s permit at 15. I have, occasionally, looked into other agencies to try to save some money but, because I have everything with State Farm and have been with them so long, no-one can match the price. I used to travel frequently so I did switch agents quite a bit but always stayed with State Farm. My wife had been with USAA for 20 years when we were married. They offer amazing rates and service but they could not match State Farm in price. She also really liked the staff and the fact that she could meet her agent face to face and she switched to my coverage. When I bought my first home in Columbia Falls, I walked into Lyle’s office to get a quote. As with all my previous experiences with the company, I found Lyle and his staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and able to give me a good price. I have since moved to another nearby town but like Lyle and his staff so much that I have not switched to a closer State Farm agent. I am not a gambler and I do know my math and odds and, personally, would not get a lot of insurance (other than health) if it were not required. I never purchase extended warranties, for example, as I know that the companies wouldn’t be selling them if they didn’t make money on them. Auto and home insurance are necessary evils, however, and I’m surprised at how little it bothers me to make the payments due to my fondness for my personable insurance agency. I have given tens of thousands to State Farm beyond any claims but, somehow, because of their service, I am not bitter about it. I do carry high deductibles and, in 30 years, have only had to make one claim, when I was rear ended at 40 mph while stopped for a school bus in my wife’s car. I only care liability insurance but my wife had full coverage on her car. The car was totaled, I was slightly injured and Lyle and his staff treated me with great compassion and kindness…this was as, if not more, important to me than the reimbursement on the vehicle.
