I have had insurance through this agent for almost 13 years. His office was closest to me when I first moved out here. I have had relatively no interaction with this agent since I signed up. Basically I send my monthly payments and they send me insurance cards and I assume am covered. I receive generic State Farm mailings in the mail relatively often, but like I said previously almost no direct contact from the agent. I did not know the importance of insurance and how much I should carry until I was involved in a serious accident. At this point I’m currently being sued as I appear to have been under insured. When I first learned of this I remember wishing I had had an actual relationship with my agent as I think that may have led me to understand how much insurance to carry and my current situation could have been avoided. I also wish I had been informed of umbrella policies by this agent, but was not. I researched such policies after my accident and called to discuss with my agent. As I am facing a lawsuit I’m not eligible for umbrella insurance. It would have been nice if my agent had reached out during the 13 years I’ve been with him to inform me of such an option. So again, to sum it up, my relationship and experience with this agent has been rather limited, almost non-existant, and not very personal. I didn’t realize that developing a relationship with your insurance agent could be useful until it was sort of too late for me.
