How Safeco RightTrack Works

How does Safeco RightTrack work? RightTrack is very easy to use. You have the option to sign up for RightTrack when you activate your car insurance policy with Safeco, as part of the Safeco RightTrack car insurance discount program. Then you simply download the app or install the plug-in device depending on your state and preference. Here’s a quick overview on getting started with RightTrack:

If you’re using the app, it will run in the background on your phone and evaluate your driving habits. If you’re using the plug-in device, it will track the data, which you can check in the RightTrack portal over a 90-day review period. The behaviors tracked include braking, miles driven, rapid acceleration, and time-of-day driving.

Get all drivers on your policy to enroll in RightTrack. Since the final score is determined by evaluating all drivers on your policy, those who don’t participate could reduce your overall savings because Safeco doesn’t know their driving habits.

Daniel Walker Licensed Insurance Agent who sells Safeco Insurance

The downsides are that the app does use your battery and data, which can cost you money if you don’t have a good data plan. Also, the app does store your data, which can lead to some privacy concerns. If you’re using the plug-in telematics device, it also tracks everything. So if you’re hard braking and accelerating rapidly throughout the day, it’ll add up.

However, maybe the biggest advantage to a program like RightTrack is that it makes you more aware of your driving habits. So if you start out driving a certain way, you can change and improve your numbers before the 90-day review period is up. More importantly, you can be a safer driver less likely to get a ticket or be involved in an accident.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, one of the main advantages of telematics is that it provides immediate feedback, causing you to adjust your driving habits quickly to be a safe driver.

Safeco Insurance Rates Breakdown

How does the insurance company determine my premium? Here is a general overview of factors that commonly affect insurance rates, including those for auto insurance, which may be relevant to Safeco RightTrack:

Factors Affecting Safeco Insurance Rates

FactorDetails
Driving RecordA clean driving record with no accidents or traffic violations usually results in lower insurance rates. Conversely, a history of accidents or moving violations may lead to higher premiums.
AgeYoung and inexperienced drivers often face higher insurance rates due to the perception of higher risk. Rates may decrease with age and experience, reaching a plateau for middle-aged drivers.
GenderHistorically, insurance companies considered gender when determining rates. However, some regions have implemented regulations prohibiting gender-based pricing. Where allowed, rates may vary based on statistical risk associated with gender.
Vehicle TypeThe make, model, and year of the vehicle impact insurance rates. More expensive or high-performance cars may result in higher premiums due to the cost of repairs or replacement.
Coverage LevelThe extent of coverage chosen, including liability limits, comprehensive coverage, collision coverage, and additional options, affects the overall premium.
Credit ScoreIn some regions, insurers may consider credit scores when determining rates. Individuals with higher credit scores may be eligible for lower premiums.
LocationThe geographic location of the insured can impact rates. Urban areas with higher traffic and crime rates may result in higher premiums.
Marital StatusMarried individuals may receive lower rates compared to single counterparts, as statistics suggest that married drivers are often considered lower-risk.
DiscountsInsurance companies offer various discounts that can lower premiums. These may include multi-policy discounts, good driver discounts, safe driver discounts, and discounts for completing defensive driving courses.

Before I realized it, my account was in collections. I called my agent and Safeco, and they confirmed it was a system error. I was also told that they did not wish to have any clients from my state. I have never been in collections, but thanks to Safeco, I now have a mark on my credit (which has been paid off). I advise to stay away from any plans they offer.

Horrible company stay away

Horrible company. I never had a claim in my life, but I had a rock chip repaired and Safeco reported on my CLUE report , which has now cost me $1250 a year premium increase for the next 5 years. Windshield crack repair should fall under comprehensive as with all other insurance companies. This $50 quick repair will now cost me $7k over the course of 5 year. Stay away from them , they are scammers who hurt the consumers.

The only person you can talk to is a customer service agent, which in my experience, has been unsatisfactory (mine were all overseas as well). They can't answer any questions, don't know the details of my account, and left me with unresolved issues as they refuse to escalate your concern (they literally won't forward your call; they just make you hang up). It's a bottom-tier insurance company with deceptive billing practices. I wish I had done more research to see all the terrible reviews of this company. Stay away from their RightTrack program. Pay more for a reputable insurance company and get a local agent.

Not worth considering

I am currently in the process of trying to cover a very small auto claim. Will be looking for new coverage afterwards. The most unprofessional insurance people I have ever talked to. We given them so much money for them to not follow through with trying to provide us decent service. Do yourself a favor and go with a better establish company with better reviews in customer service.

Long time customer got scammed.

Scam company. Change your policy mid term and jack the rates almost 200%... and then drain your account almost $400. Customer Service agent hung up on me when I called to get answers. Same policy with Progressive fraction of the cost. Is a shame as I was a Safeco Customer for years and had multiple policies written with them. They stole money from my account without my knowledge. If I did that I would be charged with a felony. How can corporation...
How can corporations get away with this? Since you sign up for paperless to get a discount means they cut communication with you only via app. So if you don't check it often you get screwed. They will not reach out for anything. Canceled policy? Nope. Over charges? Nope. Major Changes in your policy? Nope. Then to get hung up on by a "customer service agent" just adds salt to the wounds. But a company this large does not care about 1 person as there will be 10 more to fill that gap. So customer service should be actually called consumer service as they offer no assistance at all. Just another insurance company taking advantage of people.

I have been a customer of safeco/ liberty mutual for many many years. I am appalled at the treatment I am receiving from them, they are trying to screw me over. Already dealing with being in an accident, and then your car being a total loss is hard enough. But for them to then try and screw me over with giving me way less than they should is sickening. When I pay for very good insurance, I'm not on the cheapest policy. They aren't not even giving me enough to repurchase the same vehicle. This is not because I'm top heavy on my loan either. They're automated system hangs up on you. It is impossible to get ahold of somebody or to get somebody to call you back. I request to speak with the manager multiple times with no call back. They take forever to respond. Im talking about thousands of dollars too. I even set in comps to prove the vehicles, price and value. And they didn't accept or put in any of mine butt one. They made up excuses why they couldn't use them. I am canceling my insurance with them as soon as this is all wrapped up.
